Examples of Anatomography (Anatomograffiti)
Anatomography enables to standardize medical communication and anatomical images in the world
With Anatomography, you can generate anatomical images of human body parts by selecting body parts from BodyParts3D. Anatomography is useful for sharing lesion locations or surgery plans as well as anatomy education or a medical term dictionary. Different from conventional anatomical images or 3D atlases from fixed viewpoints, Anatomography provides you with an option to set opacities and colors of body parts and a viewpoint.
Anatomogram, which is an anatomical image made by Anatomography, is in the form of URL consisting of three kinds of parameters (part names, rendering settings and a viewpoint). The URL text is so light that you can send and save it. The image is reproduced by clicking the URL. You can also search Anatomograms published around the world for the ones that only contain the parts you specify. Anatomogram can be a standard form of anatomical images in the world.
Anatomograms featuring organ-specific cancer mortality mashed up with a google map
Fifty Anatomograms are mashed up with a Google Map. Each Anatomogram shows the organ-specific cancer mortality by US state (number of deaths per 100,000 white male-years, 1970 to 1994) that is published from Cancer Mortality Maps & Graph at NCI. On the map the distribution by organ and state is concisely visible, while the original one illustrates the distribution of only one kind of cancer (i.e. organ) by state. By overlaying a population density map (Gridded Population of the World (GPW)), a correlation between the cancer mortality and the population density in US can be found out. By clicking an Anatomogram, a balloon window with a large movie of Anatomogram and a link to the Anatomography editor will open. Using the editor, you can zoom in a specified organ or change the viewpoint to confirm the mortality of small organs like prostate or dorsal organs like kidney.
Tissue-specific gene expression profile
Tissue (organ)-specific gene expression level of a gene (Hs.486304) measured by iFALP was mapped onto BodyParts3D. The expression data was obtained from BodyMap database.
How to make the chart
Paste comma separated values of an organ name and gene expression level into the Anatomography editor for CSV inputs.
